We have a lot of work to do and I am excited by the prospect of developing this class into a well- rounded group of performers.

The Advanced class is working on some new songs and new arrangements to add to our repertoire. As our skills grow and develop the range of things we are capable of continues to grow. Our planned yatai bayashi workshop with Tiffany Tamaribuchi is eagerly awaited and I hope to have more workshops scheduled for this year.

In preparation for our anniversary concert all of the classes will be working on new songs and as we get closer to the concert date will be rehearsing the show. There is a great swell of energy in the group and it feels really good to have this excitement fueling our anniversary preparation.

Ohayou gozaimasu Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m the other Julie. My friends call me “Wode”, “Juri” or “Ju”. But, I will answer to most anything. I’m relatively new to wadaiko. I joined the beginning class in June 2004. Prior to arriving at SCT, I played conga and tumbadora for a few years.

Although new to taiko, I’m not new to performing. I spent over two decades performing in regional theatres in southern California before moving to Sonoma County and with my partner in 1988. That year I returned to college as an art major and graduated from SSU in 1993.

Becoming a member of SCT is one of the best things I have ever done for myself! What an incredible group of wonderful people! Only with your help, can I hope to fulfill your expectations as editor of ON BEAT!

Deadline for articles, artwork, photos, etc. for the summer edition of ON BEAT is April 29th. I want to encourage everyone to submit, especially the kids and teenagers.

Items can be left for me at the dojo office or sent to me online jokaroru@yahoo.com. Arigatou gozaimashita to everyone for meeting the deadline and who helped get this newsletter together! The first issue is always the most difficult and time-consuming! Finally finished! Yata! See y’all later!
